Simple plan
Get fit: NordicTrack optional
There are numerous benefits when one exercises regularly,
avoids unhealthy habits and eats nutritious foods. But talk to a personal
trainer, dietician, weight-loss advisor or athlete, and each of them will tell
you a different way to get and stay in shape. Because of that, we turned to
some fitness and nutrition experts and asked them to give the elementary rules
for getting and staying fit.
What they told us is simple and applicable to almost anyone
wanting to get in shape. In other words, we aren’t offering lessons in rocket
science or jet propulsion here. But if our experts’ advice is implemented it
could potentially help people lose weight, lower their cholesterol, prevent
disease and relieve stress.
That’s amazing.
So are the rewards that follow other easy-to-follow disciplines
in life. That is why we challenge you to embrace a few other life changes too.
After all, to only strive to improve our physical bodies would be to cheat
ourselves of some of the greatest things God has to offer us.
To get fit on all fronts of your life, embrace these
disciplines too:
• Read and study your Bible every day. “All Scripture is
God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in
righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good
work” (2 Timothy 3:16,17, NIV).
• Pray. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in
everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to
God” (Philippians 4:6).
• Maximize the gifts God has given you. “If it is
encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others,
let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it
is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully” (Romans 12:8).
Living a well-rounded healthy life is not all that
complicated, time-consuming or hard. It’s definitely not rocket science. But
the rewards of living such a life are immeasurable.
